Lavaman 2018

Lavaman Waikoloa was my first triathlon ever. It holds a special place in my heart and I've raced the course many times. This year, I was able to attend doing something I love just as much as competing: coaching my athletes and supporting my friends at the best Olympic distance triathlon in the world. We started the weekend with the expo, and I was able to host a booth for Trunk Trainers representing the my Average Ironmom Kelsie identity and inspiring the triathletes to reach for the stars. Jason came with me on day two, an exceptionally rainy affair and we made friends with other vendors and saw people we have not seen in a long time. It was tricky spending so many hours entertaining a 5 year old at an expo, but with the help of Cindy Coats and later my brother we managed to survive. Ironmom on a Mission

Last week was intense, even for an Ironmom. It had nothing to do with training, or even business. It was centered around an ongoing issue at school that finally caused a major problem. It started with loitering and litter, which put a student into a dangerous situation, and resulted in bullying and uncovering a greater issue of vaping, alcohol, and drug use that should not be happening amongst our students or on our campus. When we moved to Hawaii we had heard rumors the school system was a little rough, especially the one we were in. Figuring we would move before having children, we were not worried about it. Ten years and two children later we are obviously still here, growing roots deep within this community.  Most of our son's preschool classmates go to another school nearby, but with geographic exchange closed due to saturation, and no spots open at the charter school, we turned in kindergarten enrollment paperwork along with a thick volunteer application at Kealakehe Eleme...
