Moving Mountains with Mountain Movers

I love to go big or go home. But to be honest, my thirst for crazy fitness adventures has made way for a new kind of burning desire.

Two things are on the forefront of my mind.

First, my personal training business Trunk Trainers is humming along smoothly, with Coach Caili and myself helping an almost full schedule of clients stick with their exercise routines. We’ve created the Treehouse, our online fitness community, to support our clients with online courses, challenges, resources and accountability. And have helped 13 fitness enthusiasts become NASM Certified Personal Trainers so far. We’re inspiring world fitness for sure! But I still feel like there’s one more area I’d like to pursue.

Second, my baby boys are now 9 and 12. They’re going into 4th and 7th grade! And I feel like my husband and my presence in their lives right now are super important. We are definitely in the throes of tweendom and days go more smoothly when there’s time and attention for all the necessities plus a little extra for the unexpected.

Participation in the Ironman World Championship 2017 and my Coast to Coast to Coast Disney Challenge this past January were epic, don’t get me wrong! But I’m at the point where every hour is important, and I need to choose wisely where I put my attention so I don’t miss out on time I can never get back. So no more big events for me for a while.

Plus, now that I’m only doing about 45-60 min of exercise per day, focusing on getting 8hrs of sleep and getting into a more regular daily routine I’m feeling better than ever before. Aka-no longer living in a constant state of happy burnout (if happy burnout is possible).

So this leads me to asking myself what should come next. If I only have so many hours to spare, but I want to continue my mission of inspiring fitness…what will be the biggest return on my attention in moving world fitness forward?

Over the years (since Ironman really) I realized I needed to learn more about running a business vs. simply being a personal trainer. If only I had read the E-Myth by Michael Gerber I would have at least been prepared to start my own business, but alas, I’ve (mostly) figured it out after 11 years.

After that realization in 2017 I have subsequently had several business coaches, read dozens of books, and taken hours of online course to help me learn what I didn’t know. Of course I will always be learning but at least now I have got the idea of how it works.

I have also realized my love for business is just as strong as my love for fitness. You can bet I’m super stoked to have a fitness business…even if it wasn’t the original plan (medicine and/or homemaking was the original plan by the way).

So maybe, I thought, I can help other leaders get out of or avoid their burnout too, happy or not so happy, via the ultimate stress buster, exercise. Duh!

When I thought about it, I have already been working with leaders the past 16 years…in business, in the home, in the world. Most, if not all of my clients fall into this category.

Many have moved their mountains and are now retired. But they still have the spirit. And because they have been exercising via personal training they get to enjoy their retirement without too many physical limitations. They’re still traveling, working on irrigation in the yard, cleaning their houses in their 80’s. Not to mention working out regularly.

What if I could help those WHILE they are in the more intense and stressful phase of mountain moving?🤔

I also have learned that because we are a tribe species and often subconsciously mimic our leaders, when the leader is feeling at her or his best, everyone else follows suit.

The problem is, when you’re a leader, everyone pulls at your time and attention. Many times it feels like there isn’t enough time in the day.

Often times the leader will sacrifice their own healthy habits for the good of the tribe, business, family. And feel so drained at the end of the day that they turn to tv, scrolling or alcohol to sooth their nervous system. But that’s just a band aide.

The pace sometimes isn’t sustainable without self care habits in place to recharge. And they often times burn out, get sick or give up.

If the leader can take care of themselves, everything works out better. They have more energy, patience, focus, clarity and ideas. Not to mention eliminating creeping body aches that are eminent for those who sit for 4+ hours daily. Or are over 40 (just sayin’).

They also feel less stressed, sleep better and have more confidence, a key trademark of the best leaders. Their discipline is stronger and they are more productive.

If only there were a simple way to make self care…sleep, exercise, hydration, and routines easier.

As business owners we’ve been taught to do, delegate or delete to get our time back. Automate everything. Seek advisors who know more than us when we have a deficit.

My big brain started firing thinking about all of this.

What if I created a program to automate and delegate the most essential parts of a fitness routine and lead our leaders through it for a long enough period that it became automatic without them even realizing it? Structuring the program around the specific needs of these busy people, and creating a positive environment with simple routines that give them all the best results with the least amount of effort so they feel great at the end of the day?

Now that sounds like an incredibly great idea.

And based on science and experience I know it’s possible. Because I’ve already done this dozens of times, just in a different way.

So that’s just what I’m doing. Going big by going simple, with the absolute best practices to start a fitness routine from scratch for leaders.

Mountain Movers Annual Training Program is now a reality and I can’t wait to maximize my time by helping industry leaders move mountains and not sacrifice their health and family time in the process.

My hope is that it will have a trickle down effect to their companies and communities so that the ripple of fitness spreads even further!

We’ll continue at Trunk Trainers with our regular personal training sessions, the Treehouse, and developing fitness professionals as we have always done. And this new program will hopefully be a game changer, to reach even more people, helping them begin to get fit today.

I’ll be using this AverageIronmomKelsie blog, my new Kelsie Wehren Facebook profile, X, the AverageIronmomKelsie YouTube Channel and LinkedIn to share helpful information for Mountain Movers along with free tips and training relevant to those who lead.

And the Trunk Trainers Team and I will use the Trunk Trainers Blog, Facebook Page and Groups, Instagram and the Trunk Trainers YouTube channel to keep inspiring world fitness one family at a time!

And you can see behind the scenes in my life on my own IG and Kelsie Graboyes Wehren Facebook page.

Volcano Ohia Lehua 5k Race Report

A little rain wasn't going to stop us! The Volcano Ohia Lehua 5k and Half Marathon weekend was a smashing success. Jason did an amazing job, and it was so much fun to be out amongst so many runners ready to have a great time. The gratitude to be there was palpable, and despite the drizzle, everyone finished with huge smiles on their faces. We stayed at the Namakanipaio Campground in cabins which included a twin bunk bed, full size bed, complete with linens and a shower facility at the site. It was rustic and perfect, with a hiking trail leading to the volcano rim. We took the short hike over on Friday after arriving and had fun playing in the wind and kicking back before an early bedtime. Race morning we were preparing to head to the start when our neighboring camper accidentally set his rental car alarm off. It caught our attention since it was 6:30am and as we all giggled about it waking up camp, I noticed he had on the same race shirt Jason and I had as well. Since Evan was stil...

Sunday Report 8/11/24

What a productive week! In Hawaii, kids go back to school in August. Not only did we make it through the orientation week, but we also had the opportunity to walk through our new school campus, which has been 4 years in the making. My boys attend Hawaii Technology Academy, a blended learning public charter school that involves at home work with teachers online and in person days, as well as out of classroom learning in the community. We love the school and were so happy to be able to attend the school blessing this past Saturday. But a new schedule had me executing a crazy running week. I got all of my workouts in, including a Tempo day on Tuesday, a Hills and Drills Day on Friday and my 2 hour long and slow Saturday. I had done an hour walk Thursday as well, which put me in a coast to coast challenge scenario with three days in a row on my feet. My Saturday 2 hours was just a walk, partially because of this and because it felt right. I'll get back on the running Tuesday. My watch ...
